Deaf culture refers to the cultural interaction of societal beliefs, behaviors, art, literary traditions, history, values, and shared institutions of deaf or deaf-affected human societies that use sign languages as their preferred method of communication.
People who have suffered from hearing impairment since childhood often experience discrimination and isolation and thus also various setbacks in the majority society of hearing people due to the lack of an equal basis for communication. As a result, people who are deaf or “deaf” often prefer to be with other people who are “deaf” as well.
Social activities developed in this way differ significantly in form and direction from the culture of the majority society and are considered an independent culture of the deaf. This is usually more in common with the cultural activities of the deaf in other countries than with the culture of “hearing” national majority societies.
