The long-term goal of the College of the Future program is to create conditions conducive to an increase in the number of women pursuing scientific majors. The scholarship recipients are therefore selected as much for their leadership abilities as they are for their scholarly talents, and are expected to return to their home countries to pursue their careers and inspire other young women.
College of the Future scholarships range from $25,000 to $50,000 annually for doctoral courses and a maximum of $40,000 for post-doctoral studies. Grants may be renewed until completion of studies subject to performance, self-evaluation and recommendations from supervisors. The amount of the scholarship awarded depends on the actual costs of studying and living in the chosen location.
Future Community College Over the past few years, Future College has expanded its mission to include community building. To promote this initiative, approximately 50 fellows are brought together every 18 to 24 months allowing them to connect face to face in an informal conference setting.
These forums provide a unique opportunity to interact and share research, life experiences and advances on topics such as science, social and economic development, and most importantly as events where friendships are built and moral support is mutually provided. In addition to these biannual forums, many smaller informal gatherings are also organized.
