Environmental engineering is one of the disciplines that is concerned with studying environmental problems, analyzing and interpreting them in a logical and scientific way, and working to find appropriate solutions to them and mitigating their negative effects on the environment by following engineering and mathematical methods.

In other words, environmental engineering is one of the fields that aims to enable the environment to benefit from engineering applications and harness it to protect it in a scientific way. Therefore, we will review together all the information needed by any student who wants to study environmental engineering.

Research related to environmental engineering:

Environmental engineering is a broad field that draws on disciplines such as chemistry, ecology, geology, hydraulics, hydrology, microbiology, economics, and mathematics. It was traditionally a specialized field of civil engineering and was called sanitary engineering until the mid-1960s, when the more precise name environmental engineering was adopted.

Projects in environmental engineering include the treatment and distribution of drinking water, wastewater collection, treatment and disposal, air and noise pollution control, municipal solid waste management and hazardous waste management, cleaning of hazardous waste sites, and preparation of environmental assessments, audits and impact studies.

Mathematical modeling and computer analysis are widely used to evaluate and design systems required for such tasks. Chemical and mechanical engineers may also be involved in the process. Environmental engineering careers include applied research and teaching. Project planning and management, design, construction and operation of facilities, sale and marketing of environmental control equipment; and enforcement of environmental standards and regulations.

Environmental Engineer Jobs:

Environmental engineers work in the industrial and research sectors to achieve solutions aimed at controlling pollution in addition to diversifying and increasing energy sources to the greatest extent possible. Environmental engineer interests also include other topics such as the water sector, pollutant management, air quality control, soil conservation and urban planning.

Among the areas of work in environmental engineering are also:

  • treatment plants
  • Environmental management and policy analysis
  • sustainable urban development
  • Antibiotic resistance and treatment
  • Interactions between regional and global air pollution
  • Recover resources from wastewater
  • The developing world of water and sanitation
  • Water desalination
