The University of Montreal (UdeM; French pronunciation: [ynivɛʁsite də mɔ̃ʁeal]; translates to University of Montreal) is a French-language public research university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The main campus of the university is located on the northern slope of Mount Royal in the boroughs of Outremont and Côte-des-Neiges.

The institution consists of thirteen faculties, over sixty departments and two affiliated schools: Polytechnic Montreal (Faculty of Engineering; formerly École Polytechnique of Montreal) and HEC Montreal (School of Business). It offers more than 650 undergraduate and graduate programs, including 71 doctoral programs.

The university was established as a subsidiary campus of Université Laval in 1878. It became an independent institution after a papal charter was issued in 1919 and a regional charter in 1920. The University of Montreal moved from the Quartier-Latin district of Montreal to its present location in Mount Royal in 1942. It became a secular institution with the issuance of a regional charter Late 1967.

The school is co-ed, with 34,335 undergraduate students and 11,925 graduate students (excluding affiliated schools). Alumni and former students reside throughout Canada and around the world, with notable alumni serving as government officials, academics, and business leaders.
